So last week, the most catching article was titled “The Awesomest 7-Year Postdoc, or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Tenure-Track Faculty Life” – this article appeared in Scientific American in a guest blog by RadhikaNagpal on July 21, 2013.
The author shares her tips for enjoying the tenure-track position; even though she has seven tips, they seem to all boil down to one: treat it like a 7-year long postdoc. She makes the most excellent point that no job these days comes with a guarantee for seven years of employment, so that in itself is pretty awesome! She has some other great tips too, ranging from having a limit for speaking engagements and declining invitations received in excess of the limit, to sharing childcare responsibilities equally with her partner.
I was transfixed as I read this whole article. She had good advice for everyone on the tenure track! Much of it also applicable to those not on the tenure track – so take a minute and read the article for yourself. I would love to hear your comments back here on this blog.
